I finally got to see the documantary 'Tankograd' about a russian contemporary dance company. Tankograd is the name of a russian city and means something like 'the place with the tanks'. The instructor Boris Bertram has made a mix where he follows the company during practise, at their night job and at home. On one hand he is the observer and on the other hand he is the interviewer.
The company is working on a piece where gravity and weightlessness determines the human movements. But there is a dark side as well. Both dancers and other people in the city tells the unpleasant story about living with radioactive pollution which effects human health in generations and destroys wild life and water supply. It gives the documentary a different twist and is as much about a dance company as it is about the environment. The dancers are clearly effected by the radioactiveness but it is also what keeps them work harder on their techniques, be creative and live their lives in spite of the shadow above them.
The documentary is both sad and uplifting and makes you wonder about your own life approach.
'Tankograd' is nominated to several awards and won 'Best International Documentary' at Camden Film International Film Festival this year. For more info look at the home page.

How to connect the art scenes...
We, who are a part of Filomusi Productions, wish to expand the art scene of Aarhus and connect despite of genres? And as we might have some ideas it is commonly known that 2 brains think better than one, so we are always keen to hear about ideas that can help us connect. If you're out there and have an idea as to how music, theater, videography, dance, art and poetry can become one, write us and we will take it in to consideration on our next board meeting.
Thank You
